COLUMNS

There were three types of columns to support their buildings: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian.

Doric was the earliest in those three types. It doesn't have base. It is really thick and majestic. Columns body have 20 grooves. There was no decoration on the top. Since it's strong, it has the male character on it.

The character of Ionic is the use of volutes. It's slender and it has beautiful shape. It has 24 grooves and a pair of downward scrolls at the head. It is known as the female columns.

The Corinthian order is the last developed of the three styles. It is more slender than the Ionic column, with a stigma decorated with Acanthus. The Corinthian is the most ornate of the orders.

Keith Haring

Keith Allen Haring was an American artist whose pop art and graffiti-like work grew out of the New York City street culture of the 1980s.

Haring's work grew to iconic popularity from his exuberant spontaneous drawings in New York City subways – chalk outlines on blank black advertising-space backgrounds – depicting radiant babies, flying saucers, and deified dogs.

After public recognition he created larger scale works such as colorful murals, many of them commissioned.

His later work often addressed political and societal themes – especially homosexuality and AIDS – through his own unique iconography.

His work defined the premise of pop art through parody.[2] Inspired by the comic strip, Lichtenstein produced precise compositions that documented while they parodied, often in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

His work was influenced by popular advertising and the comic book style. He described pop art as "not 'American' painting but actually industrial painting".

Sandy Skoglund

Sandy Skoglund
Born: 1946
"My work involves the physical manifestation of emotional reality. Thus, the invisible becomes visible; the normal, abnormal; and the familiar, unfamiliar. Ordinary life is an endless source of fascination to me in its ritualistic objects and behavior."

Sandy Skoglund was a surrealist photographer during the 1970's, and she is still producing work today. She began working as a conceptual artist in New York City, and worked as a professor at the University of Hartford and at Rutgers University. In her images she incorporates color, animals, and people, reflecting the surrealist movement. In order to create these images, she uses an 8 x 10 camera and uses strobe lighting. Most of her photos are C-prints, while some of her more recent ones are pigmented inkset prints.

-Sandy Skoglund creates surrealist images by building elaborate sets, furnishing them with carefully selected colorful furniture, and other objects. She uses contrasting colors, such as the blue and orange above, which makes her photos more interesting and colorful. This image is surreal and creative, and appears to look almost like a dream. Her work above is characterized by an overwhelming amount of one object and either bright, contrasting colors or a monochromatic color scheme.
The Story of Cold Dark Matter
Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View is the restored contents of a garden shed exploded by the British Army at the request of the artist Cornelia Parker. The surviving pieces have been used by Parker to create an installation suspended from the ceiling as if held mid-explosion. Lit by a single lightbulb the fragments cast dramatic shadows on the gallery’s walls.
